IDENTIFY YOUR SKIN TYPE
Knowledge is empowering, so caring for your skin begins with understanding its unique characteristics and needs. That way, you can adapt your ritual and choose options that create a healthier, more radiant complexion. Blotting papers—preferably ones made from abaca leaf, which won’t dry out the face—make it easy to determine your skin profile in seconds.
First, gently pat (don’t rub) a blotting paper on your nose, cheek, forehead, and chin before you wash your face in the morning. Second, hold the sheet up to the light to see how much oil is visible after you blot each area. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you have dry skin. If the blotting sheet reveals some oil, perhaps taking up half the paper or less, your skin is normal/combination. Finally, if the blotting paper is saturated with oil and transparent, you have oily skin. Determining your skin type will help tailor your skin care to your needs, but the classical Japanese ritual works to make every type of complexion smooth, soft, and glowing.
A quick breakdown of the characteristics of your particular skin type follows.
